Flufferwump the story part 2: Bee Trouble
Michael opened his eyes and was immediately blinded by the vast array of colours all around him. He sat in long purple grass that smelled sweetly of blackcurrent jam. The sky was a vivd shade of blue with pink candyfloss clouds drifting slowly across. Around him were trees with tall brown trunks opening up into a canopy filled with every colour iof the rainbow. It was as if a child’s drawing had been made into reality. As Michael stood up he saw a bright red strip running through the fields and trees off into the distance, towards a small house in the distance with a tiny trial of smoke escaping from its higgelty pigglety chimnies.
Michael stepped onto the red road and set off at the slow stroll towards the house in the distance, still staring around him in amazement. Just before his arrived at the house he saw a deep ravine coated in a sticky yellow substance. Lucjily there is a small wooden bridge that travessed this bridge. As he stepped across the bridge he heard a gentle sobbing coming from under the bridge.
“Hello, are you OK?” Asked Michael in a superisingly calm voice.
The sobbing stopped “Iiiiittttssss stopped. T-t-t-the honey river is no longer flowing”
“The honey river?” Asked Michael to the disembodied voice
“Yes the honey has topped. “ Michael saw a small purple caterpillar climb from under the bridge “ The honey gives all our land life and it stops the Gummi Bears from coming too close”
“Gummi Bears…..”
“Yes huge bears made from Jelly. They life at the bottom of ther Honey river where it meets the sea. They eat the honey and feel so happy they fall asleep. However if there is no honey, the bears will return and start to eat all of the us, bwah wah wah”
Michael just looked the the caterpillar with an air of bisbelief. Honey river, Gummi bears, but he couldn’t leave this poor creature alone “Is there anything I can do to help?”
“No, but maybe yes. Is there anything you can do to help. My name is Colin, Colin the Caterpiller. I think you need to talk to flufferwump!” The caterpillar then turned and started to inch his way towards the house. Michael paused for a moment, then strode towards the small house purposefully, picking Colin up on the way.
Michael walked upto this most random of houses. Nothing made a straight line as everything was at different angles. It was a vivid yellow colour like custard. The windows were all uneven and looked like they were made from colour shards of stained glass. The red path went all the way to the door of the house. It was bright blue and had small circle of green glass at eye height for Michael. In fact the whole house seemd to be very small for a person to live in. Michael knocked very gently on the door
“Hello is there anyone there?”
Michael hear a thump from inside the house and the pattering of small feet. “Coming” said a cheery high pitched voice. The door handle turned and the door swung open. In the doorway was the most bizarre siht. There stood a fluffly purple triangle with green spots over it. In the middle of the triangle was a wide gapped tooth smile. It was help up with 2 small skilly legs and it had 2 arms with massive oversized white hands. The creature in front of him waved and said “welcome to my house. My name is Flufferwump do please come in”. Michael then noticed that in the middle of each of Flufferwump’s hands was a large blue eye.
Michael was shown into a small living room with a large sofa in it. As he sat down Flufferwump Asked “So what brings you to my little house”
“I don’t know how I ended up in this place. Is was making toys and hit my head and now I’m here. On my way I met Colin the Caterpiller who was upset that the honey river had dried up and said I had to come and talk to you!” Michael began talking faster and faster as he told his story, trying to get his head around the enormity of the strangeness he found himself in the middle of.
“Well if the honey river is dried up, then we shall have to follow the red road all the way to its start and ask the River Bees what is happening. I do hope you will come Michael as I am sure you have come here to help me out.”
Michael just nodded but Colin climbed onto his shoulder “Yay, we are going on an adventure”. The 3 of them set off along the red road back the way Michael had come
“Hang on, that’s where I came from”
“Oh Michael, the red road is magic. It only ever takes you to where you need to go”.
Off they went along the red road, until eventually they came up to a massive cliff face madse out of hexagons. Dripping from the cliff face were large globs of honey
“This is the honey waterfall the start of the honey river, but where are all the b…..” Colin stopped dead as a deafening row of buzzing came from over the horizon. A hoard of over 100 bees came storming over the hill. Each bee was bigger than a man, and they were lead by a bee who appeared to be wearing a golden crown.
“Oh they look angry” said Fluffer wump “But don’t worry I know how to calm them, I am after all a world famous mime artist” With this Flufferwump started to perform an aiming mime routine of pulling imaginary ropes, swimming in mid air, and sitting down to lunch. He then mimed an invisible wall he was scrabbling around. The bees seemed to be paying him no notice, until all of a sudden they appeared to hit Flufferwump’s imaginary wall.
“Owwwzzzzzzz” buzzed the Queen bee angrily” “What izzzzzzzzz thizzzzzzzzzz?”
“Your majesty, it is I Flufferwump. I have come to help you, Why are you angry and why have you stopped the river?”
“Our giant feeding field izzzzz covered in zzzzzzmoke. We cannot get zzzzzzeeeeeeeeeee the nectar”
“Oh dear oh dear, we shall try our best to clear this for you. Could you take us there?”
The bee nodded and 2 of the other bees came and allowed Flufferwump and Michael to climb on board.
Michael then realised something strange about the conversation,. No0one had opened their mouths, in fact the whole conversation had been conducted through a strange bottom wriggling dance. Michael started to laugh very loudly at the absurdity.
“Are you ok Michael?” asked Colin from his shoulder
“I’m buzzin!” said Michael
The bees flew them a short distance until Michael could see brightly coloured flowers as tall as most houses where he was from. He could see a dense fog covering the field.
“What are we going to do asked Flufferwump?”
“I have an idea” stated Michael “If all the bees buzzed and flew in a circle really quickly would the wind caused make all of the smoke disappear?”
“Oh that’s very clever” said Colin.
With that Flufferwump went to the queen bee and started to do a complicated dance
“Fly in a circle over the flowers as fast as you can and the smoke should vanish”
“Okzzzzz” said the queen bee as all the bees lifted off the ground.
They flew very quickly around and aeround the flowers. A mall tornado started to form in the middle of the bees turning, causing all the smoke to be sucked away. This allowed Michael to get a full view of the flowers. They were glittery and shimmered in the light. There was also a very sweet smell of sherbert.
“Thankz you” buzzed the queen bee. And the bees flew off to feed.
“Come with me” ordered Flufferwump “and lets see what caused this in the first place!”
They searched the bottom of the flowers, and eventually came to a small rectangular box left on the floor.
“As I worried. This is a smoke machine. I will take this away incase it starts again.” Said Flufferwump.
The bees left the flowers behind and flew back in the directing of the honeycomb waterfall.
“Do you want to see the waterfall working fully?” Asked Flufferwump
“Yes please” Michael replied excitedly
So off they went on the red road again. They shortly came back to the waterfall, but it had transformed. From the honeycomb flowed a torrent of honey. It gushed and gurgled its way down into the empty ravine and then all the way down the river.
“Wow, that’s amazing” exclaimed Michael.
He dipped his finger in and tried a little bit “Mmmmmmmmmmmmm that is the best honey ever”
Flufferwump took a jar out of his pockect and scooped some of the honey river into it.
“This is for you Michael to say thank you. It should keep you going on the way home.”
And with that the whole scene of Flufferwump and the bees and colin started to fade. Michael woke up in the nurses office at the orphanage.
“Well that was a nasty bump” said the nurse “knocked yourself clean out. You need to be more careful”
“I had the strangest dream” He said. He stopped short as he realised there was something digging into his side. He reached down and pulled out a jar of the brightest yellow honey.
